About the leather:
Light Protection: The softest and most supple of our leathers, these uncorrected full aniline, natural European hides often have “character marks” on the surface including scars, stretch marks, wrinkles and subtle shading variations. Like many of the finer things in life, these leathers require moderate attention to maintain their beauty and will develop a soft patina over time. The following leathers are Lightly Protected: Bison, Eco, Fifth Avenue, Haven, Shimmer.
Medium Protection: These leathers wear very well for most lifestyles. These full top grain, full aniline dyed leathers are enhanced with either a protective finish, in the case of Duval or an elaborate waxed process (Flagstaff) that brings forth extra dimension and beauty. The following leathers have Medium Protection: Duval, Flagstaff
Heavy Protection: The most versatile of all, these leathers have the most protection from stains. A heavier finish coating serves as a barrier to spills, stains and fading and is excellent for families with children and pets. These leathers are not as soft as less protected leathers but color is more consistent between dye lots and throughout a hide. We feature two very different options in this category, depending on your lifestyle and tastes. The following leathers feature Heavy Protection: Sierra and Elmo Soft
Environmentally Friendly: American Leather is one of the few companies to offer 35 environmentally friendly leathers in two different grades of leather. These biodegradable leathers are created from the most desirable hides in the world and processed without any harmful chemicals. For those with chemical sensitivities and for those who care to buy a higher level of eco-sensitive products these leathers are an excellent choice. Environmentally Friendly: Eco, Elmo Soft

Leather Care:
Leather will last for decades with the proper care and cleaning. In addition to this guide, refer to the care instructions that are provided with your furniture.
Under normal usage/conditions, regular dry-cloth dusting and vacuum cleaning is all that is necessary to clean your furniture.
The use of a good leather conditioner is recommended every 6-12 months.
Protect your furniture from sun and direct light. Like any upholstery material, leather can fade to some degree if exposed to the sun.
